Since that time there has been little additional plantings.

Here is your summary / results:

Hillsdale Reservoir, located just south of Kansas City, has been the subject of an ongoing project to establish shoreline vegetation, namely water willow. Several clubs have been involved through the years, Olathe Bassmasters and Shawnee Mission Bassmasters being the principals.

Water willow was chosen because it; is readily available, (most came from nearby Gardner Lake), has a good survival rate, spreads on it's own, and it provides good cover for fingerling bass. Providing cover for young bass is crucial. This cover is already proving to be beneficial to the bass population in Hillsdale. Both sampling by KDWP, and tournament results show an improved fishery. Currently, 12 to 15% of the shoreline is covered by water willow.

The goal is to have at least 50% coverage. This project is an excellent example of cooporation between Federation clubs and KDWP.  If your club would like to start similar projects, just contact the KDWP fishery biologist for the lake you want to help. If you need help with getting contact info, or want help with determining which lake to work on, please contact the KBCFN Conservation Director, Jeff Nolte, at 913-314-3832
