2010 kbfn Youth State Championship update
The KBFN 2010 Youth State Championship will be held August 22, 2010 at Melvern Lake. Tournament hours will be 7am to 1pm. The lake is off-limits to fishing by the competing anglers August 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. The ramp will be the east ramp in Eisenhower State Park.
I have reviewed the KBFN Youth finances, and although the 2010 budget included an entry fee for the championship, there will be no entry fee for fishing in this year’s Championship. I do need each of the club leaders to send me the names of the boaters they will be providing. I’d like the name of the boaters in the next few days. Thanks, Brad V.

Team Series moves to Wilson
Due to high water at Perry, the Team Series tournament is being moved to Wilson. We'll launch out of Hell Creek at safe light. I'll be staying at the Russell Inn Saturday night. If possible, register there Saturday night, otherwise I'll get you at the ramp Sunday morning. |

KBFN Youth Qualifiers #2 and #3
KBFN Youth Qualifiers #2 and #3 Hillsdale Lake, July 17 and 18 2010
Blazing heat, dripping humidity, and tough fishing. That sums up the two days of fishing at Hillsdale lake on July 17 and 18. I need to send out a couple thank you's. First to Matthew Smoot who provided 24 custom painted craink baits to be given as door prizes. He can be reached at poormanscustomlures@yahoo.com. Second to all the boaters who took the time to volunteer their boats and sit for 12 hours in the sun and humidity without the opportunity to fish, Our Youth program just could not function with out your support. Finally a big thanks to Mike Douglas and the Kickback Jr. Bass Club for hosting the two days. They donated hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, cookies, and sodapop for all the anglers after the second days events. Once again thanks to all who helped, Brad V.
Qualifier #2 The tournament started at 11 am and ended at 5 pm. There were bluebird skies with a slight (5mph) breeze from the south. Water clarity was good at 1-4 feet, and water temp was in the mid 80’s. The lake had recently gone from a couple feet low, to 2 feet high, and then dropped to 1 foot high at tournament time. This seemed to scatter the fish and made for a tough bite. With plenty of Gatorade, water, and sunscreen, 24 anglers took off to try their best on a tough, miserable day. Here are the results of Qualifier #2. Senior Division 1st place Cody Gerbrandt, McPherson (receives an automatic berth in the KBFN Youth State Championship). 2nd place Sam Starr, McPherson 100 pts 3rd place Matthew Bentler, Kickback 95 pts 4th place Cole Bowen, Puddle Jumpers 91 pts 5th place Andrew Almquist, McPherson 88 pts 6th place Tyler Hetzel, McPherson 86 pts Junior Division 1st place Justin Niccum, Kickback (receives an automatic berth in the KBFN Youth State Championship) 2nd place Travis Eckstrom, Kickback 100 pts
Qualifier #3 The tournament started at 7am and ended at 1pm, making the day a little more tolerable, but the day still ended hot and humid. Early in the day the skies were overcast with even a threat of rain, but we still ended with bluebird skies by 11 am or so. The wind was from the ENE sporadically at 5 to 15 mph. The weather changes and an earlier start time make the fishing a little easier. Here are the results of Qualifier #3. Senior Division 1st place Koby Martin, McPherson (receives an automatic berth in the KBFN Youth State Championship) 2nd place Terry Reed, McPherson 100 pts 3rd place Tyler Clements, McPherson 95 pts 4th place Jayden Bowen, Puddle Jumpers 91 pts 4th place Daniel Wiens, McPherson 91 pts 5th place Tyler Hetzel, McPherson 88 pts 5th place Chris Brallier, Puddle Jumpers 88 pts Junior Division 1st place Cole Tullis, Kickback (receives an automatic berth in the KBFN Youth State Championship) 2nd place Austin Clements, McPherson 100 pts 3rd place Cody Craney, McPherson 95 pts 3rd place Austin Bray, McPherson 95 pts |

To be eligible to fish the championship, you can only miss one tournament, or finish in the top ten in points at the end of the year. Year end points will be calculated using one throwout per team.

Team Series at Perry
I remember in past years when Kansan's were doing rain dances during this time of the year. However, this year some areas of the state have been blessed with an abundance of water. Due to the circumstances, I think moving or cancelling the Perry event is a logical decision. Because the Super 6 and Qualifier will be on Grand during a August and September, I would prefer leaving the Grand Lake event on its original scheduled date. Some of us had planned on using the Team Series event on Grand to help get ready for the Qualifier. For personal reasons, I would rather cancell the Perry event rather than switch dates with the Grand tournament. Another option would be to move the Perry event to Wilson or Skiatook. Wilson is a 15" lake and has produced a good number of anglers and fish this year. Maybe there is a permit problem?
Thank you for the opportunity to express my opinion.

Team Series at Perry
As of today, Perry is still 16 feet high and probably will be about the same next week. There is only one ramp that is usable, Slough Creek, and the bridge to the south is closed due construction. That means anyone coming from the west or south would have to go around the lake to get to it. So, I've decided we're not going to fish Perry. We have two choices, cancel the tourney, or move it. Joel suggested we swap Grand and Perry on the schedule. We'd fish Grand this month, and try for Perry in September. This sounds like a good solution to me. I'd like to get some input from the regulars on the circuit. I plan on making a decision no later than Monday. Either post your comments here, or give me a call.
